A dental crown is a tooth-shaped cap that is placed over a damaged tooth to restore its shape, size, strength, and appearance.
Crowns are appropriate for patients who have had large cavities filled, dental implants, or root canals. One of our Grand Rapids restoration dentists may also suggest dental crowns for discolored teeth or teeth with significant cracks or chips.
A crown is designed to mimic the shape and color of your natural tooth enamel. That way, you can feel confident with your new smile. Dental crown procedures are broken down into two visits. During your first visit with us, we will take x-rays, file down the receiving tooth, and take impressions. A temporary crown will then be placed until your next visit.
When you return, your new dental restoration will have arrived from the lab. One of our experienced Grand Rapids dentists will remove the temporary crown and ensure that your new crown will fit properly and is the appropriate shade of white to match your other teeth. Once your tooth is properly numbed, we cement the new crown in place.
